Nach einer Reihe von EPs und Singles hat die irische Künstlerin Sinead O’Brien ihr Debütalbum angekündigt. „Time Bend And Break The Bower“ wird am 10. Juni 2022 auf Chess Club Records erscheinen. Zusammen mit der Ankündigung veröffentlicht sie außerdem ihre neue Single „Holy Country“ samt einem stylischen Video, bei dem Chloé Le Drezen Regie geführt hat.
Gemeinsam mit ihren Mitstreitern, dem Gitarristen Julian Hanson und dem Schlagzeuger Oscar Robertson, hat sie auf ihrem Debütalbum ihre eigene Klangwelt eingefangen, die sich zwischen Post-Punk, Industrial und Spoken Words bewegt. Mit jeder Veröffentlichung wird sie dabei gefühlt schärfer und pointierter, musikalisch wie textlich. In ihrem Schaffen vereint sich ihre Liebe für Musik, Poesie und Design (als Designerin war und ist Sinead O’Brien unter anderem in den Teams von John Galliano und Vivienne Westwood tätig). Ihr Debütalbum beschreibt sie selbst wie folgt:
“The story of the album is built up in layers; one song giving context to the next. I thought about becoming undressed; testing my ideas, my voice. Working myself out across themes of identity, curiosity, creative process. Experimenting with the form and shape of language, using tone and delivery to get to the immediate centre of what I am saying. The record opens and closes with poems, these tracks have a really clear direction – a form which is set apart from the ‘songs’. I hold stops in different places, moving emphatically through the lyrics, changing the meaning. No punctuation – only the voice mapping out the way.”
