Nation of Language haben für den 19. September 2025 ihr neues Album „Dance Called Memory“ angekündigt. Es ist nach „Introduction, Presence“ (2020), „A Way Forward“ (2021) und „Strange Disciple“ (2023), bereits das vierte Album der Synth-Pop-Band aus Brooklyn, die während der Pandemie ihren Durchbruch schaffte und sich seitdem eine stetig wachsende Fangemeinde erspielt hat. Es ist außerdem das erste Album, das auf ihrem neuen Label Sub Pop erscheint.
Frontmann Ian Richard Devaney, Synthesizer-Spielerin Aidan Noell und Bassist Alex MacKay kreieren gemeinsam einen Sound, der unüberhörbar vom Synthpop der Achtziger, Minimal Wave, Post-Punk und Goth beeinflusst ist, und trotzdem sein eigenes Ding macht. Zusammen mit Nick Millhiser (LCD Soundsystem, Holy Ghost!) haben sie diesen auf „Dance Called Memory“ weiterentwickelt und perfektioniert. So haben sie zum Beispiel Percussion-Elemente mit Synthesizern verfremdet und zerhackte Beats zu neuen Drumlines zusammen gesampelt.
Die Band beschreibt das Album wie folgt:
„There is a dichotomy between the Kraftwerk school of thought and the Brian Eno school of thought, each of which I’ve been drawn to at different points. I’ve read about how Kraftwerk wanted to remove all of the humanity from their music, but Eno often spoke about wanting to make synthesized music that felt distinctly human. As much as Kraftwerk is a sonically foundational influence, with this record I leaned much more towards the Eno school of thought. In this era quickly being defined by the rise of AI supplanting human creators I’m focusing more on the human condition, and I need the underlying music to support that… Instead of hopelessness, I want to leave the listener with a feeling of us really seeing one another, that our individual struggles can actually unite us in empathy.“
Vorab ist die erste Single „I’m Not Ready for Change“ erschienen.
Das Album kann hier vorbestellt werden. Im November kommen Nation of Language für vier Konzerte nach Deutschland.
