Wir sind ja seit dem Erscheinen immer noch damit beschäftigt „Silk Chiffon“ zu singen, die erste Single, die das Trio MUNA auf Phoebe Bridgers‚ Label Saddest Factory Records veröffentlicht hat (und zu dem die Label Chefin selbst eine Strophe beisteuert). Wer den Song einmal im Kopf hat – er geht nicht mehr raus! Nun legen Katie Gavin (she/they), Naomi McPherson (they/them) und Josette Maskin (she/they) nach und kündigen ihr selbstbetiteltes Album an, das am 24. Juni 2022 erscheint.
„You’re gonna say that I’m on a high horse
I think that my horse is regular-sized
Did you ever think maybe

Going in circles on a carousel ride?“
Mit diesen großartigen Lyrics beginnt die neue Single „Anything But Me“, eine selbstbewusste Break-Up-Hymne, die kein bisschen weniger eingängig als „Silk Chiffon“ geworden ist. MUNA beschreiben den Song selbst wie folgt:
„Breaking up is hard to do. In the past we’ve stayed in relationships for a long time, waiting until we hit low lows to admit it was over. ‚Anything But Me‘ is a song about leaving a partnership simply because it doesn’t feel right. It’s about trusting yourself and your instincts enough to walk away from someone while you still have love for each other and before it gets too bad. The video for the song plays with the idea that we’ve been our own captors in relationships, keeping ourselves in unhealthy dynamics, maybe because that’s what feels familiar. The song embodies the lightness and a playfulness that floods in when you realize that there’s no lock on the door, no one’s holding you back – you can untie the knot and skip into the sunset whenever you’re ready. Now, who can guess what attachment style I have?”
Im Video zur Single finden die drei deutliche Bilder dafür, wie schwer der Ausbruch aus einer Beziehung sein kann, in der man nicht mehr glücklich ist – und wie befreiend, sobald man ihn einmal geschafft hat. Regie bei dem Spaß führte Ally Pankiw.
